Manchester United and Real Madrid are believed to be in talks over a loan move for Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker, 26, has been increasingly marginalised under David Moyes and now Louis van Gaal and is believed to be keen to leave Old Trafford.

Hernandez has been told by the Dutch coach he can leave the club if he wants. The Daily Mirror report that the two clubs have now entered negotiations with United wanting Real to pay Hernandez's £90,000-a-week wages in full.

Real Madrid are also considering Tottenham's Roberto Soldado and Manchester City's Alvaro Negredo as alternatives should a deal for Hernandez not work out.

Carlo Ancelotti last night saw his side lead 2-0 at Real Sociedad before going on to lead 4-2.

The European Champions have a shortage for their central striking role - despite the talents of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, Carlo Ancelotti only has Karim Benzema to play in the No 9 position.

The others could cover in that role but the club sold Alvaro Morata this summer to Juventus - he made 34 appearances in total last season, mostly from the bench,scoring nine goals.

Hernandez enjoyed a prolific first three seasons at Old Trafford scoring in 50 goals in 117 matches under Sir Alex Ferguson, before managing just nine goals in 35 matches for David Moyes last season.
