Jermain Defoe is expected to remain in Toronto despite interest from the Premier League.
It was thought the fallout from Ryan Nelsen leaving Toronto FC could see former England striker Defoe head back to the Premier League after QPR expressed an interest in signing the ex-Spurs ace.
Nelsen was sacked by the MLS club on Sunday night following the 3-0 defeat to New England Revolution on Saturday, with the former Spurs defender proving to be a key figure in brining Defoe to Canada having played together at White Hart Lane.
The axe appears to have fallen on Nelsen after he made critical comments about the club’s general manager Tim Bezbatchenko, who has also admitted that a number of bids have been received for Defoe.

“We have received multiple offers for Jermain Defoe and we will make a decision on this in the next 24 hours,” said Bezbatchenko, with reports suggesting the 31-year-old could return to the capital less than a year after agreeing to join the MLS side.
However, the latest reports suggest Toronto have opted against allowing Defoe to leave.
Newcastle, Hull City and Leicester City have all been rumoured to have an interest in Defoe.
Defoe enjoyed two spells with Spurs, the second of which was predominantly under the guidance of QPR manager Harry Redknapp who brought the Englishman back to the North London club in 2009.
