Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda will reject both Chelsea and Manchester United to stay with the Spanish champions, according to reports in Spain.
Marca say the 29-year-old centre-back does not want to leave the Vicente Calderon despite the club being willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian.
Barcelona were also reportedly interested in the defender, who helped Atletico to the best defensive record in La Liga last season, but Diego Simeone has convinced him to stay.
Miranda arrived at Atletico from Sao Paulo in 2011 and was a key member of the team that won their first title in 18 years last season and reached the final of the Champions League.
Miranda has already seen former team-mates Diego Costa and Filipe Luis join Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ended a three-year loan spell to return to west London.
With David Luiz having been sold to Paris Saint-Germain, John Terry and Gary Cahill are the only recognised senior centre-backs in the Chelsea squad.
Versatile Serbian Branislav Ivanovic will play there more often than he has done in the past, while youngsters Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake could have first-team roles this season.
Louis van Gaal has seen both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leave Old Trafford this summer and has been linked with a string of defenders.
He currently has Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to choose from.
