John Stones has been selected to start Everton's Capital One Cup tie against Barnsley.

The England international has been the subject of three bids from Chelsea this summer and reports yesterday suggested the defender had handed in a transfer request in an effort to force through the move.

Despite the ongoing saga, Everton boss Roberto Martinez opted to name Stones in his starting XI for the second round tie at Oakwell.

Stones has showed no ill-effects in his performances this season, despite the interest from Chelsea.

In contrast to the FA Cup, players can play for more than one team in the same season of the League Cup, meaning he would not be cup-tied should he move to Stamford Bridge.

Stones signed for Roberto Martinez's men from Barnsley in 2013 and has since made 47 appearances for the club.
