Jurgen Klopp on why Liverpool didn't challenge Arsenal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's signature

Jurgen Klopp insisted he had no need to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he explained why Liverpool didn’t challenge Arsenal for the 28-year-old’s signature.
Aubameyang, who spent two years under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, completed his £56m move to Arsenal this morning after weeks of speculation over his future at the German club.
Liverpool were linked to the Gabon international last year and because of his relationship with the forward, many expected Klopp to make a move for the striker.
But nothing came of such speculation and, speaking on Tuesday, Klopp explained why he didn’t attempt to sign the player.
“Auba is really a good guy,” the Liverpool boss said. “Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen.
“But in fact things are mostly not that controversial as they are presented. In the end everybody will be happy.
“In the first half of the season he also scored often although last summer he wanted to go to China allegedly.
“He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players.”
