Atletico Madrid are set to break their club transfer record to sign former Liverpool and Arsenal target Thomas Lemar.

The Spanish giants are set to unload €65m on the AS Monaco wideman, who is currently on World Cup 2018 duty with France in Russia.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both strongly pursued the winger for some time, with the Anfield club even bidding €90m (£78m) for him last year.

But a poor 2018 has seen Lemar’s stock fall slightly, though not enough to put off Diego Simeone who went all out to get his man.

The clubs have agreed a fee, according to sources in Spain, while terms have provisionally been agreed on a five-year contract to bring the player to Madrid.

Atletico are still hoping to hold onto Lemar’s international teammate Antoine Griezmann, who is wanted by Barcelona. Griezmann gave a press conference on Tuesday where he revealed that he has taken a decision over his future but said that the time was not right to reveal his choice.
