Long-time Liverpool target Denis Cheryshev has been given the green light to leave Real Madrid by Zinedine Zidane.

Speaking after Sunday night’s 6-0 win over Espanyol, the club’s head coach admitted that the winger need first-team football and could leave on deadline day.

“We'll see tomorrow but yes, Cheryshev could leave,” he said. “He's a great player but he needs to be playing regularly.

“The most important thing for him is that he gets minutes. He is a hard-working player and he needs to be building up playing time. I wish him the best.

“If he has the chance to leave, I’d be delighted for him. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.”

There has been little movement on the attempts to sign Alex Teixeira, with Shakhtar Donetsk still adamant that any suitors must meet the forward’s £53million buyout clause.

Liverpool remain reluctant to increase their offer beyond £30million but, according to the Daily Mirror, they have not entirely given up hope of landing Teixeira.

The 26-year-old is still keen on a move to Anfield and a deal is now most likely to be done in the summer.

The signing of Robert Lewandowski may be a pipe dream for most Liverpool supporters, but that hasn’t stopped rumours of a reunion with Jurgen Klopp doing the rounds.

Now, the Bayern Munich striker, who is believed to be looking to move on from the Allianz Arena, has spoken about his former manager’s start at Liverpool, specifically the extraordinary comeback against Norwich City over a week ago.

Klopp’s side struck late through Adam Lallana to seal an incredible 5-4 win, having been 3-1 down at one point during the second half, and the charismatic German lost his glasses in the wild celebrations.

January transfer window: 5 last minute deals

“Once at Dortmund there was exactly the same sort of incident with his glasses,” Lewandowski said.

“You could see when that final goal went in how emotional he is. I’ve noticed how much the Liverpool players love to work with him.

“I’ve seen one or two games and the reaction shows they are all united. He always stood up for his team and he’s a bit like a father for the players.

“Also, for the Liverpool fans, when they see they’ve got a coach who gives his all they’ll back him. Klopp is a very good coach. He suits English football.”
