MANCHESTER UNITED BOUND...

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has poured cold water on the gossip lovers everywhere by stating that he does not expect any new arrivals in January.

Despite the news that United chiefs will give the Dutch coach another £150million to continue his rebuilding project at Old Trafford, Van Gaal said at his Friday press conference that he doesn't think the club will be "very active".

"I don’t think that we shall be very active as not many players of a certain level are available," said the Dutchman. "I have said that when we buy a player he has to be better than the players that are playing now and that is a difficult job."

However, despite the announcement, there is still plenty of gossip to go around.

This morning they are linked with Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, who is out of contract in the summer. The Metro report that United are on 'red alert' after comments from club president Josep Maria Bartomeu that indicate the Brazilian is yet to sign a new deal at the Nou Camp.

As reported yesterday Nathaniel Clyne, Kevin Strootman and Mats Hummels are still targets, with plenty of websites continuing to link United with moves for the trio.

The father of Turkish teenager Ozan Tufan, who plays at Bursaspor, has claimed that United are one of many clubs across Europe - including Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City - who have sent scouts to watch his son.

HEADING FOR THE EXIT...

Van Gaal has plunged the future of Radamel Falcao into further doubt by stating that comments from Jorge Mendes, the Colombian striker's agent, have been "unhelpful".

THE DEAL'S OFF...

Despite those continued Hummels rumours, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has played down rumours linking the defender with a move to Old Trafford - and Marco Reus joining Real Madrid - in an interview with German newspaper Bild.
