Transfer deadline day summer 2019: The deals done so far

Manchester United's hopes of signing Christian Eriksen are over.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add at least one new face before Thursday's deadline to go along with summer signings Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

Tottenham playmaker Eriksen was an option with United exploring the possibility with the Dane's intermediaries.

However, it is understood the player has his heart set on a move to Spain.

Despite interest from United, Eriksen is instead happy to remain at Spurs and leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

There could be better news on the Bruno Fernandes front, however.

Tottenham appeared to be winning the race after agreeing terms with the Portuguese international over a switch to north London.

But Sky Sports report that Jorge Mendes has been brought in by Sporting to negotiate Fernandes' exit.

Mendes enjoys an excellent relationship with Manchester United have conducted a number of deals with the club down the years.

And Sky Sports speculate that Mendes' introduction could swing matters United's way with the deadline fast approaching.

Another deal that could be on is one for Mario Mandzukic.

The swap deal sending Romelu Lukaku to Juventus and seeing Paulo Dybala arrive at Old Trafford is off.

But that hasn't ended United's interest in Mandzukic.

The Evening Standard report that United have reignited their chase for the Croatian international with the hope of doing a deal before the window shuts.

At 33-years-old Mandzukic could offer a cheap alternative if Romelu Lukaku does, as expected, leave the club.

Speaking of Lukaku and Inter Milan are growing increasingly confident they can complete a cut-price deal to bring the Belgian in.

United gave permission for Lukaku to train with his former club Anderlecht on Monday. However they expected him to report back to their Carrington training base.

But Lukaku refused to return to Manchester and has instead remained with his former club in Belgium, as he attempts to push through a transfer away from Old Trafford.

Inter now sense an opportunity to finally sign a player they have courted all summer, but have so far struggled to raise the necessary funds for.

Elsewhere, United have turned down a loan offer for Chris Smalling from Everton.

That's according to Sky Sports.

They say that despite Maguire's arrival Solskjaer still sees the England international as an integral part of his first-team squad.
