Manchester United confident David de Gea will sign new five-year deal
Discussions have progressed to the point where all parties feel De Gea will imminently agree terms
Manchester United are confident that David De Gea will this summer sign a new contract that will effectively keep him at Old Trafford for the best years of his career.
Although the 27-year-old’s current real runs out next year and his time at United has had the constant threat of interest from Real Madrid, the goalkeeper - a repeat winner of the club’s player of the year - is hugely content in the north-west.
Discussions have progressed to the point where all parties feel De Gea will imminently agree a new five-year deal.
Word had got to a frustrated Madrid, who had already started to look at other options like Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and - especially - Roma’s Alisson Becker.
New boss Julen Lopetegui was unveiled on Thursday following his dismissal as Spain manager with a new goalkeeper thought to be high on his list of early priorities.
