Manchester United transfer news: No rush to sign Paul Pogba as Juan Mata and Bastian Schweinsteiger face exit

Juan Mata is not the only Manchester United player thought to be heading for the Old Trafford exit after it emerged that up to eight players could leave under new manager Jose Mourinho as he looks to develop his own squad.

Mourinho inherited a side from Louis van Gaal that could only manage fifth last season despite the Dutchman spending over £250m on transfers, and he has already continued the lavish spending in order to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in for a combined £56m.

However, that fee could well be offset by player sales in the coming weeks, with Mata expected to be one of those players heading for pastures new given that Mourinho has already sold him once before in his career when he deemed him to have the wrong attributes to fit his style of play.

The Daily Record claims that Bastian Schweinsteiger, Daley Blind and Marcus Rojo could all follow Mata out of the club, with Mourinho looking to free-up space for the “fundamental” and “supplementary” targets that he wants to sign before the closure of the summer transfer window.

Schweinstieger’s knee injury that kept him out of the second half of the Premier League season has convinced Mourinho that he is surplus to requirements next season, while Blind and Rojo do not feature in the Portuguese’s defensive plans as he believes that are not physically strong enough to cope in the English top flight.

The pursuit of Paul Pogba continues after the midfielder embarked on his holidays after attending a Euro 2016 event in Paris with the president of France, Francois Hollande. Despite missing out on Euro success in Sunday’s final, the French squad were congratulated for bringing the nation together in support of the team, and were applauded for reaching the final after knocking out rivals Germany along the way.

However, the reported £100m move that United are willing to press on with is no nearer to completion after the midfielder’s agent, Mino Raiola, admitted that there is no rush to leave Juventus, with a new contract offered by the Serie A champions on the table.

"Several big clubs are keen on his services and we have all the time to listen," said Raiola.

"He has three years left at Juventus and they are asking him to renew. Why would they want to let him go?"

Any move for Pogba is likely to exceed the £86m record transfer that Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale, but Raiola stressed that the player’s club future was not up for discussion during the European Championship.

He added: "We didn't talk about transfers during the Euros."

One player United do appear to be in talks with though is Mexico winger Hirving Lozano after his current club Pachuca confirmed that United have made an approach to sign the 20-year-old. Lozano is highly rated in Mexico as the next big thing, having scored 25 goals in 111 appearances for Pachuca, and fans can get closer look at him next month after he was named in Mexico’s Olympic squad for Rio 2016.
