Mats Hummels to join Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich
The deal will be confirmed once the defender has completed his medical check with Dortmund
Bayern Munich have announced that defender Mats Hummels is to join Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
The centre-back has spent his career swapping between the two clubs, having risen through the ranks of Bayern Munich’s youth system before joining Dortmund on a permanent basis in 2009.
He went on to make 225 league appearances with the club. He later returned to the Allianz Arena in 2016.
After three years in Bavaria, he is now due to move back to Westfalenstadion for an undisclosed fee.
Several German media, including Der Spiegel and football magazine Kicker, reported the transfer was worth around 38 million euros.
The deal will be confirmed once the defender has completed his medical check with Dortmund.
Hummels was dropped from the German national team along with fellow 2014 world champions and Bayern players Thomas Mueller and Jerome Boateng in March as part of an overhaul.
He had also lost his automatic starting place at Bayern amid growing competition for a spot in central defence.
Hummels was part of the Dortmund team that won the league in 2011 and 2012 as well as the German Cup in 2012. He also reached the 2013 Champions League final with them where they lost to Bayern.
