Mesut Ozil has given Arsenal fans a decidedly unambiguous update on his precarious contract situation.

Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season, although sources close to the player have indicated he is on the verge of signing a new deal until the summer of 2021.

The deal is believed to be worth £350,000 per week and will make Ozil the highest paid player in the league.

Arsenal have denied that the deal has been signed yet but an agreement is understood to be close, much to the excitement of the club’s supporters.

And on Thursday Ozil sent the rumour mill into overdrive when he shared a picture of himself sat at the table autographing a stack of photograph, with the caption: “Had a busy day signing things.”

If Ozil signs the new deal that would represent the biggest success of the transfer window for Arsenal.

They have already signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund but were facing the prospect of losing Ozil, who had just six months left on the contract he signed when he joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013.

He would have been a free agent in the summer, and Manchester United were interested in signing him for free, but Arsene Wenger has grown in confidence after recent negotiations with Ozil’s representatives.
