Manchester United will sign Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton for £25m this summer, according to reports.

It has been widely reported this morning that United have beaten off competition from Arsenal for the Frenchman.

The 25-year-old had said: "The talks are ongoing and should be completed soon."

It is expected he will double his wages to around £120,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

Tottenham were also interested in the player.

Reports claim that United manager Louis van Gaal sees Scheiderlin as the long-term replacement for 33-year-old Michael Carrick.

Schneiderlin had also previously said that he would only leave Southampton to play for a team in the Champions League. United will return to Europe's elite competition next season after finishing fourth last term.

"Of course the Champions League is my goal. If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League."
