Barcelona winger Pedro has "verbally agreed" to sign for Manchester United after late interest from rivals Manchester City, according to reports in Spain.

A report in Mundo Deportivo claims that the 28-year-old will complete the move to Old Trafford in the coming days, after giving United his word that he will sign for them.

Pedro has been strongly linked with United all summer and has a £22m release clause. The report claims that City are also now interested, but the Spain international will reject them for United.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, who played in the English top-flight between 2007 and 2015, says that he thinks his "good friend" Pedro will impress in the Premier League.

“He is a good friend, and if he decides that England is the next step in his career, I am sure he will do very well there,” Torres, who now plays for Atletico Madrid, told the Daily Mirror.

“He has all the ability you would expect from a player who has been at Barcelona for so many years, but also he has a great work ethic.

"He works hard, he will help defend, he won’t be bullied, he has everything to succeed in the Premier League.

“I think he will find it very hard to leave Barcelona, but I understand as much as anybody how important it is to be playing regularly — especially once you reach a certain age. You need to be at a club where you are playing a lot of football.”

Pedro, has scored 99 goals in 319 games for Barcelona, and has won five La Liga titles with the club.
