Radamel Falcao could make a shock return to Atletico Madrid, according to reports.

The Colombian striker, who has been a flop on loan at Chelsea, is said to be in the Spanish capital to try and complete a late return to the club where he was so potent.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Falcao has spent the day in a hotel while super agent Jorge Mendes tries to complete a tricky deal.

Falcao, who has not played for the Blues since 31 October and scored just one goal for the club, was linked with a return to Monaco or a money-spinning move to China.

However, he is said to be still fondly thought of at Atletico, where he scored 70 goals in 91 matches between 2011 and 2013, winning the Copa del Rey and Europa League.

If the late move does come through there is still a chance he could move to China, where the window remains open until 26 February.
