Radamel Falcao to Chelsea: Former Manchester United striker says he 'would like to continue in the Premier League' ahead of Blues transfer

Falcao would love to have a second chance in England with Jose Mourinho said to be keen over a move for the Colombian striker

Radamel Falcao has addressed the reports heavily linking him with a move to Chelsea by admitting he would love a second chance in the Premier League.

Falcao left Manchester United last month after the club decided against activating a £43.2m clause in his loan contract that would have made his temporary move from Monaco permanent. The 29-year-old striker managed just four goals during his season-long spell in Manchester, with the serious knee injury that he suffered in 2014 looking to have had a major impact on his goal-scoring prowess.

However, Premier League champions Chelsea are believed to be in talks with Falcao over a another move from the Ligue 1 club, with manager Jose Mourinho currently on the lookout for a new attacking option following the departure of Didier Drogba. While a loan remains the most likely option, Chelsea could make a permanent move for Falcao for a fee in the region of £25m.

Falcao has joined up with the Colombia squad for this summer’s Copa America where he will captain his country, having missed their impressive run at last year’s World Cup due to the knee ligament injury he suffered, and he directly addressed reports linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.

“I know it has been speculated very much about Chelsea,” Falcao told Colombian daily newspaper El Tiempo.

“I try to stay out of it. I care about working with Colombia for now. That's what my agent does.

“I would like to continue in the Premier League. My future will be decided in the coming weeks.”

A figure from Chelsea’s past could look to scupper a move to London though, with Zenit St Petersburg manager and former Blues head coach Andre Villas-Boas interested in renewing his relationship with Falcao.

Villas-Boas coached Falcao during his reign as FC Porto boss, where Falcao signalled his arrival on the European stage before securing a move to Atletico Madrid. Any move from Villas-Boas would also see Falcao link up with his former strike partner Hulk, with the pair firing Porto to a historic treble in 2010/11 as they secured the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the Portuguese Cup and the Europa League before leaving the club.
