Raheem Sterling risks 'destroying his life and career' by listening to 'bad advice' over a move away from Liverpool, Thierry Henry has said.

Sterling's time at Anfield seems certain to be ending this summer after his agent Aidy Ward insisted that the winger is 'definitely not signing' a new deal with the Reds.

Henry has warned that the reigning European Golden Boy needs to think carefully about how he resolves the ongoing standoff with his club.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Sunderland, the Gunners' all-time leading goalscorer said: "I think we all know that he's been receiving some bad advice.

"You can't go out there and talk about your contract in the press. You have to respect your fans, respect the club that you play for."

Henry drew parallels between the Sterling transfer saga and his own experience of being linked with big-money moves after breaking into the Monaco first team in the mid-1990s. The Frenchman endured one frustrating half-season at Juventus after a £10.5m move, before signing for Arsenal in the summer of 1999.

"It's the same thing," Henry said. "To an extent you can blame the agent, adviser, whatever you call them now but you need to be a man about it also, you need to be able to say, 'Enough, you're destroying my life, you're destroying my career'."

Sterling was booed by Liverpool fans after picking up the Reds' young player of the year award earlier this week. Arsenal, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs have been strongly linked with a move for the 20-year-old.

Theo Walcott, out of favour at Arsenal, would be a possible replacement for Sterling, while the Barcelona forward Pedro has reportedly been offered to a string of Premier League clubs with a tempting £7m price tag.
