Raul Meireles leaves Chelsea for Fenerbahce in £8m move

Fenerbahce have completed the £8m signing of Raul Meireles from Chelsea on a four-year deal.

The midfielder had struggled to force his way into the starting XI at Stamford Bridge this season and manager Roberto Di Matteo deemed the Portuguese as surplus to requirements.

Meireles started 37 games for Chelsea last season after arriving from Liverpool on the final day of last August's transfer deadline day.

Meanwhile, Netherlands right-back Gregory van der Wiel, who was linked with Chelsea over the summer, last night signed for big-spending Paris Saint-Germain from Ajax on a four-year contract.

The fee for Van der Wiel, who has 35 caps for the Netherlands, is believed to be €6m (£4.75m).
