Robert Lewandowski’s agent has revealed that his client has held talks with Real Madrid and could leave Bayern Munich this summer.

The Poland international, whose current deal expires in 2019, also suggested that he may exit the Allianz Arena himself by claiming that contracts are not a ‘holy relic’.

Lewandowski’s future was brought into doubt in April after negotiations to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena broke down. Cezary Kucharski, his agent, now claims that talks have been held with the Champions League finalists.

“Real Madrid contacted us a few weeks ago, we listened to everything they said. It’s a big and exciting club,” he told Spiegel, the German news maagzine. “We have informed FC Bayern that we’ve held talks with Madrid.”

Lewandowski scored 30 goals during Bayern’s 2015/16 Bundesliga campaign, which saw Pep Guardiola’s side win their fourth successive league title.

The 27-year-old, who has also been linked with Manchester United in recent months, told Spiegel himself that even a new contract at Bayern would not guarantee his future at the club.

"Contracts are not a holy relic in football," he said. "You can like this attitude or not but it's the truth. Sometimes you have to think about if it is meaningful to try out a new impulse."

Lewandowski has been named in Poland's provisional 28-man squad for this summer's European Championships in France.
