Robin van Persie has held further talks over a potential transfer to Fenerbahce despite Manchester United yet to accept a bid for the striker.

Van Persie has one year remaining on his current contract and United believe they can make as much as £10m should they choose to sell the former Arsenal captain, but Fenerbahce’s opening bid of £4.7m fell well short of United’s asking price, reports the Daily Mail.

Van Persie’s agent Kees Vos insisted last weekend that Van Persie had not agreed to join another club and would report for United’s pre-season training, which got underway earlier this week.

“If Robin had found a new club, we would have announced it,” said Vos. “All I can say is that tomorrow [Monday], Robin will be back at Manchester United to report for the first training session.”

Despite winning the Premier League in his first year at United following a £24m switch from the Gunners, Van Persie has been linked with a move away from the club each summer after the surprising retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, which the Dutchman admitted in the past that he found tough to take in.

The 31-year-old found it difficult to break back into the United line-up under manager Louis van Gaal following his return from injury last season despite their good relationship which dates back to when Van Gaal was the Netherlands’ national team coach and Van Persie was his captain at the 2014 World Cup, just weeks before he arrived in the Old Trafford dug-out.

Wayne Rooney’s form in front of goal last season may not have produced his best goal haul, but he did finish as the club’s top goalscorer and his form was one of the brighter parts of United’s season, and led to Van Persie having to make do with a place on the bench that is believed to have triggered these doubts over his future with the club.
