Stoke finally completed the £3.25m transfer of Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic shortly before the transfer window closed last night.

The 22-year-old Bosnia international signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Potters. "Asmir is someone we have been tracking for some time and we believe that potentially he is the best young keeper in the country," said Stoke manager Tony Pulis.

Meanwhile, Wigan made Bolivia striker Marcelo Moreno their second signing on transfer deadline day after confirming the capture of Victor Moses from Crystal Palace.

Moreno, 22, has joined on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of the season, subject to visa and international clearance. Moses, 19, was signed for a fee of around £2.5m.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said: "We knew we needed more competition in the forward area, and now we have it."
