Tottenham demand £14m for Andros Townsend amid interest from Watford and West Brom

Tottenham outcast Andros Townsend is no closer to ending his troubled time at White Hart Lane despite interest from Watford and West Bromwich Albion after owner Daniel Levy refused to budge on his £14m asking price for the wantaway winger.

The 24-year-old is believed to favour a temporary move away

from north London in the hope that he can rediscover the club form necessary to cement a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad ahead of the European Championships this summer.

However, Levy maintains that he will not sanction a loan deal for the player, and is only willing to entertain the idea of a permanent move at his desired fee.

Both Sunderland and Newcastle were reported to be interested in Townsend earlier in the transfer window, but Tottenham’s hefty asking price appears to have put the two north-east clubs off from making an offer.

Now two other top-flight sides in Watford and West Brom wish to borrow the England international for the remainder of the season, but Spurs are unwilling to negotiate on their demands.

Earlier this season, a row with the club’s fitness coach Nathan Gardiner saw Mauricio Pochettino suspend Townsend from the first team, and although the player later apologised, he has been unable to force his way back into the manager’s plans.

Townsend has played just 64 minutes of Premier League football this campaign, making eight appearances in total in all competitions. He has not completed a full match for the club in almost two years, and was omitted from the squad to face Leicester in the FA Cup third round at the weekend despite Pochettino making seven changes.

Townsend has been on the books at White Hart Lane since 2008, but has played more games in total for the nine clubs he has represented on loan than he has for Spurs.
