Andre Villas-Boas, the Tottenham manager, has effectively ruled out signing Leandro Damiao, but the club have been linked with the Seville striker Alvaro Negredo.

The Seville president, Jose Maria del Nido, was in London today, but the club insist he was in the capital to meet Spurs.

Villas-Boas said it was "very unlikely" that the 23-year-old Brazilian Damiao would join in this transfer window.
