Tottenham have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze, according to German reports.

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund had been originally poised to battle it out for the 24-year-old’s signature but it seems Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now in contention.

The out-of-favour attacking midfielder is aware that his future at Bayern Munich is at an end as he looks for more regular football. After previously outlining his intent to fight for a starting position, the youngster now seems willing to move on from the Allianz Arena.

A series of disappointing performances for Germany has further convinced Gotze of the need for a change of scenery as he looks to regain his form.

According to the German newspaper Bild, the player’s representatives have already held initial talks with Spurs over a possible move to White Hart Lane.

Bayern are reportedly looking for around £20m for the player whose contract runs out next June.

Since joining the Bundesliga giants in 2013, Gotze has scored 33 goals in 107 appearances for Bayern in all competitions but he has struggled to make an impact for the side throughout the past season.

He only made 11 starts for Bayern and suffered further disappointment at Euro 2016 where he was subbed in all three of Germany’s group stages before losing his place in the knockout stage.

Since the end of the season the German giants have been pushing to sell Gotze.

Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge remarked earlier this summer: "We made everything clear to Mario.

"He knows what the club thinks and he knows what the future coach thinks. Mario has to consider for himself whether he wants to constantly get minutes.”

Tottenham’s pursuit will undoubtedly be boosted on account of the Champions League football that they’ll be able to provide next season. With Liverpool failing to qualify for either the Champions League or the Europa Cup, Spurs will have the advantage over their Premier League rivals.

The London side are also on the cusp of securing a deal for AZ Alkmaar’s Vincent Janssen who scored 27 goals last season for the Dutch side. The deal is expected to be finalised in the coming week.
