Fenerbahce have agreed a deal to sign Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen on a season-long loan.

The Dutch international was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad after they completed the signing of Fernando Llorente from Swansea. However as recently as Thursday manager Mauricio Pochettino had insisted Janssen remained part of his plans.

The 23-year-old travelled to Istanbul yesterday to complete his medical ahead of the move.

Janssen joined Tottenham from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2016, for £18.5m. However he struggled to make an impression for Spurs, often restricted to small cameo appearances at the end of matches with Harry Kane preferred as a lone striker.

He scored just six goals in 38 appearances and Llorente’s arrival pushed him even further down the pecking order.

"Our club has agreed a loan deal in principle for Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur and Holland national team striker Vincent Janssen," read a Fenerbahce statement.

"The 23-year-old striker will arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12.30pm today and negotiations will continue in Istanbul."

At Fenerbache, Janssen will star alongside a fellow Spurs flop in Roberto Soldado, who joined the Super Lig side this summer from Villarreal.
