Manchester United have 'reached an agreement' with the agent of Paul Pogba to pay the Frenchman €13.5m-a-year (£11.5m) if he completes a world-record £100m switch from Juventus.

Mino Raiola, Pogba’s agent, is building strong ties at Old Trafford having also facilitated for the arrivals of both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Italian-born Dutchman is keen to secure his client a return to United.

Real Madrid are also believed to be keen on luring Pogba to Spain but they have been put off by the astronomical valuation put on his head by Juventus.

Led by Mourinho, United are desperate to reaffirm their status as a football super power and are prepared to back up their intentions with the required cash.

The new United manager disclosed during his first press-conference since replacing Louis van Gaal last week that he set out a four-pronged transfer strategy this summer. Having completed deals for Eric Bailly, Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan already, Pogba is the last piece of the jigsaw.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Mourinho is prepared to offload up to eight first-team players to finance the move for Pogba, wiping out the dead wood from Van Gaal’s tenure.

The Portuguese is said to have isolated the 22 players he believes are key to winning the Premier League title this season – and is willing to ruthlessly cut the others adrift. The Sun say Marcos Rojo, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger are most at risk of a cull.

Juan Mata, the former Chelsea midfielder, is also expected to leave with Everton and Sevilla thought to be among his many suitors. Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Adnan Januzaj also face sleepless nights as Mourinho gets to work at Carrington.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have reportedly suffered a setback in their attempts to sign Alvaro Morata after the Spanish international returned to Real Madrid from Juventus.

Many believed the Champions League holders had re-signed Morata to sell him on for a quick profit but Marca, often labelled a ‘mouth piece’ for Madrid, suggest he may be about to stay at the Bernabeu.

The striker scored 12 goals for Juventus last season and has also been a target for both Arsenal and United in the past.

Everton are reported to be on the verge of making a huge bid to gazump Chelsea and Arsenal in the hunt for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, thought to be in the region of £38m.

The Senegalese centre-back is among the most exciting players in Europe at present and was considered most likely to join Chelsea this summer. Gazzetta World suggest the Toffees, however, are ready to flex the financial muscle afforded to them by new owner Farhad Moshiri.

Koulibaly has made 81 appearances for the Partenopei since joining from Belgian Jupiter League side Genk in 2014.
