Sunderland striker El Hadji Diouf was at Ewood Park last night undergoing a medical in the hope of sealing a £2.8m move to Blackburn Rovers. Should the deal be completed, Sunderland would recoup the fee they paid for the Senegalese international when they bought him from Bolton Wanderers last summer. The former Liverpool striker has struggled to hold down a first-team place at the Stadium of Light this season, appearing just three times in the last two months following the return from injury of Kenwyne Jones. The 28-year-old forward has spent the last seven years of his career in England, joining Liverpool in a £10m switch prior to the 2002 World Cup. A loan move to Bolton preceded a permanent transfer in August 2004.

Motherwell agree fee for Porter

Cardiff City are poised to complete the signing of Motherwell striker Chris Porter, 25, after a fee was agreed. Porter's contract expires in the summer and he has already rejected a £200,000 move to Huddersfield this month. But Well manager Mark McGhee confirmed that a bid, believed to be around £400,000, had been accepted from the Championship side. He said: "We have received a bid from Cardiff for Chris and it is now up to the lad to decide if he wants to go." Porter has scored nine goals for Motherwell this season.

Harding joins Royals on loan

Reading have signed Dan Harding on loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the season. The versatile former England Under-21 international can play anywhere on the left-hand side and the Royals are just waiting to finalise the paperwork and seal the deal. Meanwhile, Royals midfielder Emerse Fae has moved to French side Nice for an undisclosed fee after a successful loan spell and Steve Coppell has allowed defender Alan Bennett to extend his loan spell at Brentford until the end of the season.
