Transfer news and speculation, June 7
Newcastle United have been linked with the former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has grown unsettled at Barcelona after a season spent largely sat on the sidelines. "One Premier League club has shown a lot of interest in Eidur," father and agent Arnor Gudjohnsen told the BBC. "He would certainly be interested in a move back to England, but he is not going to rush into making a decision." He added: "Eidur and his family are settled in Barcelona and he has two years left on his contract, but his chances were limited last season."
Reports suggest that West Ham are also interested in the Icelandic international.
Spurs snap up Barça's Giovani
Barcelona forward Giovani Dos Santos has signed for Spurs, the Spanish club have announced. The 19-year-old Mexico international, who joined Barça in 2002, has signed a five-year contract for a £4.7m fee, rising to £8.6m depending on appearances. Barcelona have retained 20 per cent of any sell-on fee should he move in the first two years of his contract and will take 10 per cent of any transfer if he moves after that. Giovani has risen through the ranks at Barca, after originally joining the club at the age of 13. He made his debut for Frank Rijkaard's first team last season.
Spalletti stays, assert Roma
Roma insist coach Luciano Spalletti will remain with the Serie A club despite reported interest from Chelsea. "Spalletti is the Roma coach and as far as we are aware will continue to be the Roma coach next season," a club official said. "Moreover, Spalletti is under contract with Roma until 2011." The Italian was linked as a replacement for Avram Grant.
Swansea reject Derby Bodde bid
Swansea have rejected a second offer of £750,000 from Derby for midfielder Ferrie Bodde – but have made two summer signings. "Derby's improved bid still comes nowhere near our valuation," Swans chairman Huw Jenkins said. Meanwhile, manager Roberto Martinez has returned to Spain to sign Gorka Pintado and Jordi Gomez.
Perry and Holmes sign for Saints
Southampton have completed the free-transfer moves for Chris Perry and Lee Holmes. The defender Perry, 35, joins from Luton Town after a successful loan spell at the end of last season, while the winger Holmes is a free agent after being released by Derby County.
