Kaka has put Manchester United and long-term admirers Arsenal on alert by stating that the wants to leave Real Madrid.

Madrid bought the Brazilian midfielder for a world-record £56m in 2009 from Milan, but his time at the Bernabeu has been far from successful, blighted by injuries and lack of form, and the imminent arrival of Gareth Bale will force him down the pecking order even further.

The 31-year-old scored twice for Madrid in a 4-0 friendly victory over Deportivo on Thursday night but expressed his desire to leave the club after the match.

"I want to leave," Kaka said. "I think now is the right moment for me and for the club for me to leave amicably. I have spoken to Carlo Ancelotti and with the club, they all know.

"Things are difficult for me now in the team, and the club knows what I want. It's my obligation to work and keep training, but my father is already working to see if something comes up.

"I think it's the best thing for me and the club. We can only hope for a solution before this next Monday. My intention is to keep playing in Europe."

Arsenal reportedly to have had an offer for the Brazilian rejected in 2011, while United’s frustrating summer pursuit of a creative midfielder could force them into a late bid for the player before the transfer window closes on Monday night. Milan are also monitoring the situation.
