Luis Suarez is believed to have apologised for his recent behaviour after reports suggest the striker is back training with the Liverpool first team squad.

The Uruguayan international had been banished from training by manager Brendan Rodgers after he claimed Suarez had shown a “total disrespect” to the club, with the 26-year-old forced to train with the reserves before joining his national team in Tokyo for their international friendly against Japan.

But it appears Suarez has apologised upon his return to England, with Rodgers allowing the forward to re-join the squad for their training session on Friday ahead of their Premier League opener against Stoke on Saturday.

Suarez won’t be available for the tie due to his 10-match suspension for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic – of which he still has six games to serve – but the reintegration of the striker into the squad is the first step of Suarez ensuring he has an Anfield future should he fail to get his wish of a move away from the club.

The incident Rodgers saw as the breaking point was an interview Suarez gave with The Guardian and The Telegraph in which he claimed the club had reneged on their word to sell him should they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

He was also adamant that Arsenal had triggered a release clause in his contract when they bid £40m plus £1 for his signature, but Liverpool rejected the offer and maintained that no such clause existed – they only had to inform Suarez that the offer had been made.

Suarez threatened legal action, but the Professional Footballers’ Association confirmed that he had no case, and whether or not a ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ existed in unknown.
