Tottenham have announced that a deal for Roma winger Erik Lamela has been agreed in a move that breaks the club's transfer record for third time this summer.
While the fee is undisclosed, it is understood to be in the region of £30m, making him the club's latest 'most expensive player'. A payment of £25.8m will be topped up with bonuses totalling £4.3m
Earlier this summer, Spurs broke their transfer record to sign Paulinho for £17m, before paying £26m for Roberto Soldado.
Lamela is highly rated, having impressed since joining Roma from River Plater in 2011. In 67 appearances for the Eternal City club he has scored 21 goals. The 21-year-old also has three caps for Argentina.
Spurs turned their attention to Lamela after a deal for Brazilian playmaker Willian was hijacked by Chelsea.
It takes the club's spending this summer to approximately £92.8m.
The arrival of Lamela, who is seen as the most direct replacement for Gareth Bale among the plethora of new arrivals at White Hart Lane, leaves nothing in the way of the Wales international making his move to Real Madrid.
