Tottenham are reported to be confident of securing a deal that will see Valencia striker Roberto Soldado move to White Hart Lane.

Negotiations between Spurs and Los Che had stumbled over Valencia’s asking price, with the Spanish club holding out for his release fee of £26m.

But reports are suggesting that the majority of the finer details have been agreed, despite Spurs fans earlier fears that the move would be financed by the sale of Gareth Bale, which continues to dominate the headlines.

The Spaniard has scored six goals on the international stage in his 11 appearances, though he has had to compete with David Villa, Fernando Torres and Fernando Llorente for the lone striker role that Vicente Del Bosque prefers.

At domestic level, he scored 30 goals in 46 league appearances in La Liga last season, and his record for the club stands at 81 goals in 141 games.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has already signalled his intent ahead of the new season, having signed £17m Paulinho from Corinthians and wrapping-up the capture of Nacer Chadli from FC Twente last week.

Despite Jermaine Defoe’s hat-trick against South China in the Barclay’s Asia Trophy third-place play-off on Saturday, it seem Villas-Boas still wants to strengthen his attack after a lack of goals from Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor cost Spurs Champions League qualification last season.
