Transfer news: Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone completes Hull City switch in £5.25m deal

Hull City have signed Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone in a move that is understood to have broken the club’s current transfer record.

It is believed that a £5.25m fee will change hands between the two clubs which would break the current record of £5m that the Tigers paid Fulham for defender Jimmy Bullard.

Hull confirmed the news after agreeing personal terms with the midfielder which saw him sign a three-year deal.

The Premier League newcomers fought off interest from Sunderland, whose boss Paolo Di Canio admitted last week that he wanted to add an English central midfielder of high quality – despite making 10 new signings already this summer.

Di Canio had been trying to persuade Sunderland owner Ellis Short to fund a move for Huddlestone, having given Lee Cattermole the cold shoulder after he awarded his number six shirt to new signing Cabral.

Spurs midfielder Jake Livermore has also completed a season-long loan move to the KC Stadium to bolster the squad as they attempt to stay up in their first season back in the top flight.

Huddlestone has made over 100 appearances for Spurs but the recent addition of Paulinho and expected signing of Etienne Capoue have pushed him down the pecking order, along with the return to fitness of Brazilian Sandro.

The 26-year-old has had his own injury troubles in the past although he has made four appearances for England.
