Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul could follow in the footsteps of former Spurs captain Sol Campbell after the Frenchman was linked with a stunning move to north London rivals Arsenal in the summer.
Kaboul has a year left on his contract but could look to move on, especially if Arsenal secure a 17th consecutive year in the Champions League at Spurs’ expense. However, Campbell instantly went from hero to zero in the eyes of the White Hart Lane faithful, and became a target of hatred from the Tottenham support that used to cheer him on – a fate Kaboul would also have to get used to if he made the same move.
The Daily Star has reported that the 28-year-old has been identified as a replacement for captain Thomas Vermaelen, who looks set to leave the Emirates this season after losing his place to fellow centre-back Laurent Koscielny.
The move could also be aided given that Kaboul is best friends with Abou Diaby, the Arsenal midfielder who Arsene Wenger confirmed would finally return to training on Tuesday after recovering from his latest serious knee injury.

However, taking to his Twitter account Wednesday, Kaboul completely dismissed the talk of a switch across north London.
Vermaelen appeared to be a revelation when he joined in 2009 when the Gunners’ defence needed significant strengthening, but he suffered a string of injuries and has struggled to win back his place in the starting line-up.
While he could leave in the summer, Vermaelen has spoken of both his and the rest of the Arsenal squad’s desire to see Wenger put pen to paper on a contract extension – something that was expected to have been completed months ago but has now but the 64-year-old’s future in significant doubt if they don’t finish in the top four and win the FA Cup.
“Everybody wants him to stay as long as he can,” revealed Vermaelen.
“He’s been incredible what he’s done for this club and for the players as well. We would be really happy for signing on for a few more years.”
