Obertan set for United

Manchester United are interested in signing the young Bordeaux winger Gabriel Obertan, according to the Ligue 1 club's president, Jean-Louis Triaud. "It's a great possibility," Triaud said. "United want him and we will make it official when the moment comes."

Benayoun close to new deal

Yossi Benayoun has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a two-year contract extension. The Israeli captain's new deal will see him remain at Anfield until 2013.

Ashley ponders offers

The Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has received at least two offers meeting his asking price for the club. "There have been more than two bids at £100m," said the Magpies managing director, Derek Llambias. One bid reportedly came from a Malaysian consortium and the other from a Singapore based group.

Philippe Mexès (Roma) and Andrea Pirlo (Milan) have both ruled out a switch to the Premier League with Chelsea. "I wouldn't want to leave the club like this. I want to prove my worth" said Mexes after last season's poor campaign. Pirlo said: "I am calm. I have a contract and I want to stay."
