Vurnon Anita undergoing Newcastle medical after Ajax agree to £6.7m transfer

Dutch midfielder Vurnon Anita is understood to be undergoing a medical at Newcastle today.
As The Independent reported yesterday, Newcastle have already agreed a fee of £6.7m with Ajax for the transfer of the midfielder.
During his visit to the north-east, Anita will meet with manager Alan Pardew and discuss personal terms.
Newcastle will hope that the deal is completed in time to make him available for the opening Premier League game of the season at home to Tottenham on Saturday.
Anita said earlier this week: "I think it [the transer] will be finished soon, but you never know how it will go.
"I have played for Ajax for 13 years, it has been a great time and I am grateful to Ajax.
"Now it's up to me. But first I want to talk with the manager of Newcastle United before taking a decision. The whole picture has to be right for me."
The 23-year-old has won three senior caps for the Netherlands having played for them at various youth levels, although he was not part of their Euro 2012 squad.
Predominantly a midfielder, but also able to play at left-back, Anita came through the academy set-up at Eredivisie giants Ajax and made his first-team debut in the 2005/06 season.
Should Anita sign, he will join Newcastle's other summer recruits Romain Amalfitano, Curtis Good and Gael Bigirimana.
