What to expect from Arsenal this transfer window

Arsene Wenger is usually cautious in the transfer window but could his side’s best chance at winning the title in a number of years tempt him to break into the piggybank?

After the injury to enforcer Francis Coquelin, a defensive midfielder certainly wouldn’t go amiss at Arsenal.

They have already been heavily linked with Basel’s Mohamed Elneny, with a transfer expected to go through in the first few days of the window.

Could another, more established midfield destroyer still be needed at the Emirates?

Meanwhile, up front, Olivier Giroud continues to impress and frustrate in equal measure. Despite recently notching six goals in four games, questions remain over his consistency.

The addition of a top class centre-forward would certainly strengthen the club’s championship credentials.

Who does the Evening Standard’s chief football correspondent James Olley think that Arsenal should target in the upcoming January transfer window?
