Marouane Fellaini confirms when he will announce his next club after rejecting Manchester United contract

Marouane Fellaini has confirmed that he will announce his future on Sunday after failing to agree a contract extension at Manchester United.

The Independent recently revealed that United have not met Fellaini’s £120,000-a-week wage demands but AC Milan could be willing to offer him a three year deal. Arsenal, a host of mid-table Premier League sides and leading Turkish teams have shown strong interest in his signature.

The midfielder’s contract at Old Trafford expires at midnight on Saturday and the Belgian midfielder will confirm his next move after spending five years at the Manchester Club.

Speaking ahead of Belgium’s World Cup Group G match with England, Fellaini discussed whether uncertainty around his future has mentally affected him.

“No, since a few months, I am used to it,” said the 30-year-old. “I am strong mentally to deal with it and soon I will say where I will be playing next season.”

Fellaini's departure will come as a blow to Jose Mourinho who was desperate to negotiate an extension on the midfielder’s contract. “I want to see the white paper with the United crest and Ed Woodward’s signature and Marouane’s signature,” said the Manchester United manager in April.

“I think a player that grabs the crest after scoring is telling clearly that he wants to stay. I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay, I think he will stay, it is nearly there,” Mourinho added after Fellaini scored a last minute winning goal against Arsenal.

With Michael Carrick retiring, and Fellaini departing, United will dip back into the transfer market to recruit midfield reinforcements. United recently confirmed the signing of Fred, but Serbian international Sergej Milinkovic-Savic remains their top target.

Real Madrid and Juventus are also interested in Lazio’s star man and the Italian side could command a large fee for Milinkovic-Savic who signed a five-year contract in April 2017.
