Last night's World Cup final between Germany and Argentina was BBC pundit Alan Hansen's final appearance before he called time on his 22-year career on Match of the Day.

Rio Ferdinand, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker all sported black suits in the BBC studio on the Copacabana beach, but was that to celebrate the final or because of the former Liverpool defender's final bow?

"I've been in football for 41 years and I'm going out right at the top, just as I did at Liverpool," he said.

"I have worked for a great organisation with wonderful people on the most fantastic programme."
