Dwain Chambers, the European 100 metres champion, opened his 2003 season with a third-place finish over that distance in the Modesto Relays in California.

Chambers clocked a promising 10.19sec in his first race of the summer, behind the American Jon Drummond (10.17). Victory belonged to Ato Boldon, the Trinidad and Tobago runner marking a return from a hamstring injury with a winning time of 10.15.

The Commonwealth 100m champion, Kim Collins, won the 200m in 20.40, ahead of Bahama's Dominic Demeritte (20.78) and the American Mickey Grimes who clocked 20.80.

Meanwhile, Tyrone Edgar of Woodford Green, ran times of 10.04 for the 100m and 20.57 in the 200m for Kansas University at the US National Junior College Championships.
