Jessica Ennis opened her indoor season in impressive fashion at the North of England Championships in her hometown, Sheffield, on Saturday.
Competing for the first time since she won the heptathlon title at the European Championships in Barcelona last July, the 24-year-old won the 60m hurdles in 8.15sec and finished runner-up in the shot with an indoor personal best of 14.11m. She also clocked a brisk 6.44sec in the 60m.
As she builds towards the European Indoor Championships in Paris in March, Ennis plans to contest the 60m hurdles and long jump in the Loughborough Open meeting this Saturday.
The following weekend she is due to make her first appearance in a Great Britain vest in 2011 – in the Indoor International at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.
