Pool water 'not to blame' for illness

Canadian swimmer Ryan Cochrane leads home South Africa's Heerden Herman and Australia's Ryan Napoleon in the second heat of the men's 1,500 metres freestyle yesterday.

The quality of the water at Delhi's S P Mukherjee Aquatics Centre had come in for criticism after several swimmers came down with illness but Games chief Mike Fennell refuted claims that the pool water was to blame. "The tests at all three pools revealed the standard was as required," he said.
