Boxing: McCullough's exile from Belfast comes to end

Wayne McCullough's will fulfil a dream when he fights again in Belfast on 2 November, at the Maysfield Leisure Centre. McCullough said yesterday that he had been waiting for two years to fight in his home city.

McCullough had been due to fight in October 2000 when he failed a brain scan and then thought his career was over, but in August he received a British Boxing Board of control licence and returned to the ring last month with a fourth-round win over the South African Johannes Maisa at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

"The reason I fought to get my licence was so that I could fight in my homeland – that is what I have got," McCullough said. "It was written into my contract that I would have at least one fight in Belfast and one in Dublin because Ireland is where I want to box."

McCullough, still waiting for an opponent, will share top billing with the British welterweight champion, Neil Sinclair.
