Deontay Wilder promises ‘bloody night’ for Tyson Fury in rematch and vows to use cut ‘like a target’

Deontay Wilder plans to use Tyson Fury it’s damaged right eyebrow ‘like a target’ when the pair meet for their anticipated rematch next year and has promised another bloody night for the Gypsy King.

Fury sustained a pair of thick cuts above the eye during his September 14 encounter with Swedish southpaw Otto Wallin in Las Vegas, which transformed what was expected to be a relatively straight-forward evening into a gory 12-round war.

The 31-year-old remained undefeated by virtue of a unanimous decision but was immediately taken straight to hospital where he required 47 stitches to seal the double-wound.

As such, it has been suggested that Fury’s rematch with Wilder, which has been slated for February 22 back in Las Vegas, may come too soon for the 6ft 9in heavyweight because his eye will require more time to properly heal.

Now Wilder, who must first get past Luis Ortiz on November 23 unscathed, has warned Fury that the affected area has become a beacon for him as he plots a route to victory in their rematch.

The pair battled to a controversial draw in what was considered a modern heavyweight classic in December, when Fury twice climbed up from the canvas at the Staples Center to hear the final bell.

They have been on a collision course ever since and, provided everything goes to plan against Ortiz, Wilder believes he can use Fury’s scar tissue to his advantage.

“I will absolutely be using that cut as a target,” he told The Independent. “And I am definitely going to open it up again.

“I will make sure I open that one up and I’ll make sure I open a new one up too.

“It’s going to be a bloody night for him and all I can say to him is ‘buddy rest up’, you’re gonna need it, it’s going to be a long and painful night.

“Otto Wallin definitely gave Fury the fight of his damn life, to the point where he cut his eye open like three inches across. It was a hell of a bad cut and in fact, that fight should have been stopped.

“That was one of the worst cuts I’ve ever seen. You can compare it to the Lennox Lewis v Vitali Klitschko fight which was stopped by the doctor because the cut was so bad. But this one went on.

“Otto Wallin, hats off to him, he definitely did his thing in there but, right now, my mindset is not on Fury.

“It’s just that I know exactly what to do in that fight, the second time around, in February. When I’ve been in there with someone one time, the second time – ahh man. The second time you definitely got no chance. I know everything that Fury wants to do after being in there with him before.”

Since having the stitches taken out of his damaged eyebrow, Fury has enjoyed cameo appearances in the WWE, which his promoter Frank Warren has described as ‘risky’ given the nature of his healing cut.

It has even been suggested that Fury could feature in a more prominent role for them before the year is out, which will further help to build his profile in America.

But Wilder has taken umbrage with Fury’s description as a world heavyweight champion given his current lack of title belts.

“I saw him in the WWE,” Wilder added. “I thought it was hilarious and I liked how the other wrestler told him he was going to be left on his back looking up at the lights just like Deontay Wilder did him.

“It’s exciting times in the heavyweight division and you can tell the WWE understand, they understand what’s going on. But it was laughable that Tyson Fury described himself as the heavyweight champion of the world, they need to cut that bullshit out. Tyson, you are not the heavyweight champion of the world, you are just in the top 10.

“He talks about this lineal stuff but that don’t mean nothing. I ain’t ever seen a 12-round fight with no title, no belt. You say you’re the champ but it’s an invisible belt, we can’t see nothing.

“But the heavyweight division is so amazing right now, so exciting and I’m so happy to put my little percentage in and make it so great. I remember the time when it was in a dark tunnel, there was nothing exciting going on, it was kinda boring. Now it’s just amazing and I’m happy to be part of that.”
