Tyson Fury reveals Deontay Wilder rematch date and vows to ‘knock him the f***’ out

Former heavyweight world champion announced the news during a fan Q+A event on Saturday

Tyson Fury has announced that his hotly-anticipated rematch against Deontay Wilder will take place on 22 February, with the British former world heavyweight champion promising to “knock him the f*** out” following their dramatic draw last year.

The two heavyweights are lined up to fight each other as long as Wilder comes through his planned WBC heavyweight title defence against Luis Ortiz, although both the date and venue still needs to be decided.

But with Fury desperate to take on Wilder for second time after last December’s epic encounter in Los Angeles, it appears talks over a future agreement has reached a breakthrough.

While not official confirmation has been made, Fury declared on Saturday night that the rematch is scheduled for 22 February – likely to take place in the United States once again.

Speaking at a Q+A event with fans at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford, Fury said: “The rematch has been confirmed and signed. 22nd of February, it's on the rematch.

“This time I haven't been out the ring for three years, this time I haven't been abusing too much alcohol, and this time I am going to knock him the f*** out.”

A partisan Fury crowd cheered on his announcement, chanting his name as he danced on stage before continuing the night as part of his UK tour in the wake of defeating Tom Schwarz inside two rounds last month.

Fury is aiming to regain the world champion status that he lost following the dramatic victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, though he is likely to fight one more time later this year before getting his hands on Wilder.

Fury’s next opponent is currently odds-on to be disgraced heavyweight Jarrell Miller, who was slated to fight Anthony Joshua last time out before repeated failed drugs tests lead to him being replaced by Andy Ruiz – who went on to stun Joshua and dent his chances of getting his hands on either Fury or Wilder for the foreseeable future.
