Fraser strikes for Scotland

Scotland enhanced their prospects of qualification for next year's World Cup in Perth here yesterday with a 3-1 win against Malaysia to move into third place in Pool B whilst England were resting following their laboured 1-0 victory on Thursday evening. The win over Kazakstan moved England into first place in Pool A on maximum points.

Scotland's double Olympian Sue Fraser gave her side a splendid start with a second minute penalty corner conversion with Rhona Simpson putting the Scots further ahead in the ninth minute. Scotland then lost their way with frustration and anxiety taking over as they failed to convert a number of penalty corners.

Norliza Sahli converted Malaysia's first penalty corner seven minutes into the second half to bring her side back into the game but Linda Clement scrambled home a reverse stick effort to allow Scotland to reclaim their two-goal advantage.

With Audrey Longmuir injured in their opening game and ruled out for the rest of the tournament, Scotland will be hoping that Helen Walker who was taken to hospital following a facial injury mid way through the second half will be fit for their important game against Belgium this evening.
