Hockey: Army's superior fitness pays off
The army achieved a fine grand slam in the Inter-Services Tournament at HMS Temeraire, Portsmouth yesterday, winning all four competitions. With the normal three-day tournament reduced to a one-day event, fitness was of a premium and the Army certainly had the edge.

In the final senior match, the Army came from behind to beat the RAF 4-1 in a game which they dominated after Jon Evenett had equalised at the interval following an early RAF goal from Kev Simpson in the third minute.
Evenett's England colleague Guy Fordham put the Army ahead six minutes after the break. Evenett got a second, missed a third with a feeble penalty strike, then set up the final goal for Richard Forsyth.
Earlier in the day, the Army beat the Navy 5-0, with Evenett scoring a hat-trick. The RAF in their opening game overcame a two-goal deficit as the Navy ran out of steam to draw 2-2.
The coach Ian Jennings has resigned from the England women's set-up following dissatisfaction with a reduced role in the future.
