Hockey: Slough on treble trail

Slough go into the weekend still on course for a trophy treble, looking to add the Women's Premier League title and the Cup to the Indoor title they gained earlier in the year.

Already qualified for the League play-offs, they entertain sixth-placed Ipswich this afternoon, when defeat for the Suffolk side would probably put an end to their dreams of the last play-off place. Recent form favours Slough, who narrowly got the better of Ipswich in a five-goal cup quarter-final thriller two weeks ago.

Slough travel to Southampton tomorrow to play Trojans in their Cup semi-final. Trojans will be without the influential Kath James, who has been suspended until 31 March following last week's game against Chelmsford. James has since apologised for her behaviour in a statement from the club.

Canterbury, who still have a chance of a League and Cup double, entertain second-placed Olton today and travel away to Doncaster for tomorrow's cup semi-final.

Second-placed Reading's visit to Surbiton is undoubtedly the men's match of the day tomorrow, with two of the great tactical coaches in the British game, both now concentrating on club hockey, facing each other. Jon Copp's Berkshire side are 11 points ahead of Jon Royce's third-placed Surbiton.
