Christian Malcolm failed in his bid to win a medal in the 200m at the World Championships in Edmonton after he finished fifth in an incredibly close race.

Olympic champion Konstadinos Kederis took the gold, with Christopher Williams of Jamaica was awarded the silver, with Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis and Shawn Crawford of the United States both getting bronze medals. All three were timed in 20.20.

Malcolm - who some people had been tipping for the gold - was too upset to speak to reporters after the race but later said that he was "gutted" and insisted his time to win a gold would come, fellow Briton Marlon Devonish finished last.

In the women's 800m, Kelly Holmes booked a place in the semi-final with an apparently comfortable second place in her heat.
